Here at CrossRoads Farm, we are dedicated to bringing you the highest quality pasture-raised chickens, brown, eggs, turkey, lamb and pork that you can find today. In addition to pasture, the poultry receive an all-natural grain mix consisting of corn, oats, soybeans, aragonite (a natural calcium source mined from shellfish deposits), kelp meal, fish meal, and a natural vitamin and mineral mix. We use no antibiotics or growth hormones, but instead use probitics which actually strengthens and enhances their immune system.
We are a small family-owned and operated farm nestled in the rolling hills of Belmont County, Ohio near the small town of Centerville. We live on St. Rt. 147 right across from where you go back to Dysart Woods, on of the last remaining stands of virgin forest east of the Mississippi. We are situated 4 ½ miles southeast of Belmont and 9 miles Southwest of St. Clairsville.
As we have entered a new century and a new millenium, I believe we are standing at a crossroads in agriculture today. Over the past 30 years especially, we have seen a trend towards larger and larger farms, more confinement of animals, a higher usage of antibiotics and growth hormones, and an increased dependence on all-grain or grain based diets. Poultry and other livestock are in high-stress confinement facilities and are unable to breathe the fresh air, bath in sunshine or eat the fresh green grass that God designed for them to enjoy. At the same time we have also seen an increase in antibiotic resistant bacterial in humans, E. coli and salmonella scares in processed meat, and increased rates of heart disease, cancer, type II diabetes, etc. in humans.
Many people have read and understood the health risks associated with eating food raised in these stressful and unhealthy conditions and are searching for a healthy alternative. Thankfully, there is a new paradigm in agriculture today that is empowering consumers, giving them the choice to buy animal products that are raised in a way that is healthier for them, for the animals and for the environment. And they buy from a farmer they know personally, someone that is local, not a faceless company some based some hundreds or thousands of miles away.
